The 11th edition of the Festival On The Niger will be from February 17 to 18, 2012 in Segu. Mark theses dates on your calendar !

Mali Travel Tours organizes a special tour to discover Mali and to attend to this very special Festival that takes place on the banks of the Niger river. Each year, the Festival brings a vibrant atmosphere to Segu with:
- concerts: Famous Malian and other West African artists giving concerts from a giant scene postionned on the Niger River, just in front of the beach.
- Fair: Craftmen bring various arts and techniques.
- Music, dance and puppets from the Segu area: there are approx. 15 different styles of dances and puppetry in the Segu region.
- Forum: Each year the Festival organises a forum about themes that are important for the Malian society.
- Art exhibitions: he Festival has the ambition to make Segou into the Capital of Visual Arts.
- Tales and Legends from Segu: Story-tellers, musicians, actors and puppets bring Segu’s past alive again.

February 15, 2012: Arrival in Bamako

Arrival and transfer to hotel. Overnight in Bamako.

February 16, 2012: Bamako – Segu

Let’s go to Segu ! The Mali’s second largest city is a former colonial center. Check into your hotel, then enjoy the festival activities (Concerts, masks, puppets, crafts and more). Overnight in Segu.

February 17 & 18, 2012: Festival sur le Niger

2 Full days of festival activities: speakers, demonstrations, expositions, movies, story-tellers, puppets, as well as traditional and contemporary music and dance. Overnights in Segu

February 19, 2012: Ségou – Djenné

Breaklfast and drive to Djenne, Timbuktu’s ancient sister-city and one of Unesco’s World Heritage sites, overnight in Djenne.

February 20, 2012 : Djenné – Songo-Dogon

Visit Djenne’s weekly market, when Djenne is at its colorful best. See hundreds of market stalls spread out before the magnificent Great Mosque – This is the world’s largest mud brick architecture, originally built centuries ago. In the afternoon, drive to Mali’s fascinating Dogon country. On the way, visit of Songo with its Rock paintings and circumcision cave. Overnight in Bandiagara.

February 21, 2012 : Dogon Country

Breakfast and drive to visit southern villages of the Dogon area (Djuiguibombo, Kani, Teli, Endé…) After lunch drive to Sangha. Overnight in Sangha.

February 22, 2012 : Dogon Country – Mopti

Breakfast and drive to visit the Dogon villages of Banani, Ireli, Amani, Tireli (Mask dance). After lunch drive back to Mopti. Overnight in Mopti.

February 23, 2012 : Mopti – Teriyabougou

Breakfast and visit of Mopti, the Venice of Mali: see the fascinating mix of Malian cultures: Bambara, Bobo, Bozo, Dogon, Fulani, Tuareg, Songhay and Hausa. Visit of the beautiful mosque, the fishing port and the bustling market, where you can shop for gold or silver jewelry, Tuareg leatherwork, or Fulani blankets of cotton or wool. Lunch and drive to Teriyabougou. Overnight in Teriyabougou.

February 24, 2012 : Teriyabougou-Bamako

Breakfast and visit of Teriyabougou a fascinating village based on green energies and sustanaible development. Then, transfer to Bamako. Arrival and settlement in Hotel for day room. After a farewell dinner, transfer to Airport for Flight.
