Day 01: Europe-Bamako

Arrival at Bamako-Senou airport. Transfer from airport to Bamako and overnight in Hotel.

Day 02: Bamako – Segou (155 Mi)

After breakfast, depart for Segou, former capital of the Bambara kingdom. Crossing Bambara villages along the way. Continue to Segou, arrival and transfer to hotel – Lunch.

Afternoon : discover Ségoukoro, a village which was the holy city of the powerful empire of Mali, Aminist Bambara Empire, between the 17th and 18th centuries. The city was at the middle of the Bambara war waged against Islam before falling into the hands of the French in the late 19th century. It contains the tomb of King Biton Coulibaly, founder of the kingdom and the two oldest mosques in the city.

Walk in the city : the houses of the explorers, the cooperative factory of “bogolans” handled by the women of the village, pottery. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 03: Segou – Djenné (192 Mi)

Breakfast – departure for Djenné. Arrival in Djenné and check-in. Dinner and overnight.

Day 04: Djenné – Sangha (111 Mi)

Breakfast – walk tour of Djenne :
– the grave of the young girl who was sacrificed in the 12th century for the prosperity of the town of Djenné,
– the colorful weekly market (on Mondays),
– the master piece : the great mosque of Djenné, the biggest mud-building in the world, built in 1906.
– A cooperative managed by women who produce traditional fabrics called “Bogolan” which dye is obtained from trees bark.
– An old small mosque converted into children graveyard
– we will also visit the Koranic schools commonly called “Medersas” where children learn Koranic verses.
Departure to Sangha. Check-in at Camp Sangha.

Day 05: Sangha – Ireli – Banani (3 Mi)

Breakfast and departure for a trekking day through Ireli.
Lunch in Ireli – departure to Banani where we will spend the night.

Day 06: Banana-Mopti (108km)

Breakfast and departure to Mopti in 4×4.Arrival and check-in at the Hotel. Afternoon : exploring Mopti also known as “the Venice of Mali”.

Day 07: Mopti-Bobo Dioulasso (295 Mi) Burkina Faso

Departure for Bobo Dioulasso, one of the most vibrant cities in Burkina Faso. We will cross the border. A little patience and a sense of humor, officials are generally pleasant with tourists, they do not even look at the bags. But the African bureaucracy is not a legend. Resuming the journey to Bobo Dioulasso. Arrival – transfer to hotel.

Day 08: Bobo-Banfora (52 Mi)

In the morning, we visit the old neighbourhood of Faraka, the Dioulasoba Mosque, the town market and crafts stall. After lunch, departure for Banfora, visiting typical villages of the region and admiring the spectacular domeshaped rock formations, which have been gently molded over time by the wind. Overnight in hotel.

Day 09: Banfora-Gaoua (Lobi Land) – Banfora (248 Mi)

After breakfast, we leave to the Lobi country. We arrive in Gaoua, capital of the region. Walk through the city to meet the various ethnic groups. They are great artists, painters and couturiers. Travelling through different villages and markets that surround the area. Odd thnig about the Lobis : the core activity of their life is dedicated to communicate with the spirits. Their village are purely aristocratic: the leader lives with wives and several parts of the houses overlap each other. Return to Banfora in the afternoon.

Day 10: Banfora – Sikasso (115 Mi)

Departure for the Senufo region. En route we visit a number of villages, plantations and a green tea factory. In the afternoon, we explore the sacred rocks of Misirikor. Overnight in hotel.

Day 11: Sikasso – Bamako (246 Mi)

Departure towards the Malian capital, stopping to visit a traditional Senufo blacksmith village. Arrival in the afternoon and overnight in Hotel.

Day 12: Bamako – Europe

Free day to relax or shop for last-minute souvenirs. Evening dinner in a traditional restaurant “Santoro” followed by the transfer to airport.
